Most people know this song as a traditional bluegrass tune, but it was first recorded as a blues tune by a black string trio called the Mississippi Sheiks in 1930. It’s been recorded by many other musicians since that time, including Jack White, and the Grateful Dead. https://www.americanbluesscene.com/a-brief-history-of-sitting-on-top-of-the-world/ Rhiannon Giddens told us to go and look for the original version of the song, and this was also one of the many things that peaked my interest in the research but also my interest in the connection of blues and old-time music. My sister and I wanted you to hear what our interpretation of the original version sounded like. This was the very first blues song that I played.
