This is an old blues tune first recorded by Henry Whitter, a white blues guitarist, in 1924. It is also said that this was a song about the Great Depression and the dust bowl migrants, you can infer that too from Woody Guthrie’s lyrics.
I heard Phil Wiggins, a blues harmonica player, doing this tune and it was really interesting to see how the blues version evolved into a bluegrass tune.
